My Current Reality~ In A Nutshell...Blonde

Hi Follower's aka Friend's and you "peep's" who stumble across my blog!

I'm going to give you a rundown of my weekend...hold onto your hat's, pant's, hair, or whatever else might have a tendency to be blown away!

Let's start the weekend with Friday evening/night. A reminder for some who might have forgotten or those of you that are new and just don't know this, yes, I am still sporting a Lime Green cast on the left leg and, I am still only able to get up into my wheelchair for 5-15 minutes twice a day. A not so pretty vision of this blogger should be forming in your mind's eye right about now.

I'm vain, therefore, there will be NO PHOTO's of me until Tuesday, at which time, I will stop following my doctor's orders long enough to wash my hair! My personal hygiene consists of: Washing my face, a "sponge bath", brushing my teeth, brushing my, now disgusting, hair and putting it into a ponytail, applying lotion to my very dry epidermis, and tons of moisturizer to my face!

I am counting the hours until Tuesday...I have a doctor appointment, so I get to make myself presentable! I know I am in this for the long haul, but fingers crossed, my Doc will tell me I can be up for longer periods of time, thus removing my internal battle of having to choose "should I use the 15 minutes to wash my hair or should I get food for the day?"...obviuosly "food" has been my choice!

So, Friday night~ I had a piece of carrot cake for dinner, watched a marathon of "Million Dollar Listing" (seen on Bravo), that I had recorded on my DVR and I wanted to delete them to make room for more "reality tv" that I am discovering, I'm slightly addicted to. There you have it, that was Friday...I fell asleep during the marathon. Exciting, I know!

On Saturday, I decided to get ahead on a bit of next week's Social Media work, so I spent a few hours searching the internet for information that is pertinent to "what it is that I do"...now as most people know, when you start "searching the Net", you can get sidetracked very easily! Before you know it you are mulling over a purchase for some designer shoes, stiletto's no less (please see the humor and irony in that as it relates to me), and these shoe's most certainly have no place in your "Dave Ramsey- Live Debt Free" budget! You see where I'm going here?, I was way off track!

I did manage to get back on course and have a good jump-start to this weeks work.

My blog needed attention, so, I decide to post the Awards that some of you have given me, thank you, but I discover that I cannot find the posts that informed me of these Awards! Mortified, I have to then ask these generous Award-givers, "can you please re-direct me to these Awards?" ...and you have done so. Now I will post them, in their own post of course.

As evening rolled around, I realized I hadn't eaten since my "carrot cake meal" on Friday! I had already spent my second round of "15 minutes up" on feeding the animals and letting them out and back in for the night. The mini-fridge next to my bed is in dire need of re-stocking...it contains 1 Mike's Hard Lemonade, the infamous (almost gone) bottle of Mudslide that I found a month ago in my kitchen fridge, a block of moldy cheese, and a chocolate flavored Instant Breakfast drink. I'm starving!

Right about now you might be feeling kind-of bad for me....don't :) My girl twin, Chyanne, comes through the front door and says "Mom, are you hungry? I'm starved! Does fresh cracked crab and potato salad sound good?"... to which I reply "Hell yeah! I'll buy!"...and my little angel comes into my room and "snatches" (they learn this skill quickly) my debit card out of my hand and heads out the door to the grocery store for the goods! Here, meet Chy:

Chy makes it home, cracks the crab, comes to my room, has dinner and watched "The 40 Year Old Virgin" with me before she left for a night of fun and "whatever" with her friends.

I need to take a moment to say this...I'm very fortunate to have the kids I have...we do have our difficulties, but all in all, I'm very blessed with them. All of my children have gone "above and beyond" what most children might experience in life, because of my disability, but, my disability has also provided them with life lessons that will be an asset as they get older and move through life.

My Saturday night continued with a little more excitement. We had wind gusts up to 40+ mph and I was fairly certain the power was going to go out so I made sure I had candles, matches and my flashlights beside the bed.

I really dislike the high winds! I have a huge, very tall tree, right outside my bedroom...if it comes down, it's coming down on my bedroom!

I like to think ahead in these "Mother Nature" moments...we've all seen the "raw news" video(s) of people being rescued in a natural disaster and the like...people in their underwear, out of their underwear, partially underwear-ed, you get the picture right? Well, that is not going to be me! Ok, except for when I recently broke my leg...I was in my Spanx, the kind that are capri length, and a tee shirt. I was headed into the pantry, getting ready to make coffee. I've learned my lesson, I will never make coffee in my Spanx again! Fortunately, Chy was here and my "most awesome" neighbor, Sharon (I know, we have the same name, cool huh?) had not left for work yet, so they spared me the shame of having to call the Firemen to come help me, in my Spanx! Shesh...if this isn't a run-on paragraph, I don't know what is...

Ok, so back to the "mother Nature and other Disaster Preparedness" I was talking about. The wind had started gusting last night and I look at my cast, my underwear, my cast, my underwear....I couldn't stand it, I had to get up! I drag my casted and slightly heavy legged-self into my chair for a 3rd time, breaking the Doc's rule, to get my pull-on yoga pants (I don't do yoga), I make my way back across the 4 feet from dresser to bed, haul my butt back out of my chair onto my bed, fold my yoga pants neatly across the back of my wheelchair, smile and say "not tonight Mother Nature, you're not catching me in my Spanx again!" and I happily drifted off to sleep, secure in knowing I wouldn't be caught in an embarrassing rescue.

Have you noticed yet that I am delusional enough to think that I will be able to put the yoga pants on, cast and all, before I am trapped by the falling tree? That I might somehow hear that the tree is going to fall while I am asleep? Did you notice that I "folded" them and put them "on the back of my wheelchair" instead of putting them on my body and then mocking Mother Nature?!

And I have just shared with you a classic "Sharon Blonde Moment", the weekend is not over, there could be more to write about :)

I hope your Sunday is a great one! I will be back to hand out Awards! Yay!

Take Care~

Awards....

Hi Everyone~
I feel terrible...there have been a couple of people that sent me messages saying they left an award for me on their blogs...I cannot find them! Oh, my Blonde-ness is in overdrive right now!

If you were one of these oh-so-kind individuals, please send me another note letting me know where your blog is! I feel like a schmuck!

My 1968 Cougar XR7~She's A Beauty!

Hi Everyone~

I would like to introduce you to my obsession, my Summer fun, my escape from the day's that I wish my legs worked, my "hey baby wanna ride?" fantasy.

In 1968 Playboy magazine said the Cougar XR7 was "the classiest" of new cars that year.

So please meet "Goldie", my 1968 Cougar!
This car has given me more pleasure over the past several years, so much so, I cannot really put it into words.

I have loved fast cars since I was 10 or 11 years old. I remember my big brother was always tinkering on some ol' hunk of junk that was parked in the driveway when I was growing up. I loved to sit and ask him questions until he would finally get sick of me and send me on my way

My first Cougar I owned was in 1977, it was blue with white leather interior...I was lured away from her by this sassy little Fiat convertible in a moment of weakness. I sold the Cougar to a girlfriend from school and although the Fiat was fun, I always regretted selling that blue Cougar.

In 2004, I found "Goldie", she was parked inside a building in Spokane Washington, where classic cars are sold. I went straight to the bank, got a loan and made arrangements to get her to my home 100 miles away.

I have hand-control's installed (as I do on all my cars), and as soon as Spring starts to show signs of arriving, I call the mechanic and arrange for "Goldie" to be tuned-up and spit-shined, ready to hit the highway!

The air conditioner doesn't work, by choice, I don't really like air conditioning and it would probably cause "Goldie" to overheat anyway. So I pull my hair into a ponytail, put on a baseball cap, grab my shades, turn "Hotel California" by The Eagles up real loud and head out onto the highway! I cannot tell you the thrill I get, but you can see my smile from a mile away!

"Goldie" has a throaty rumble, that, when I pull up to a stop light, if there is a person who loves muscle cars nearby, her rumble will turn heads and the inevitable "thumbs-up" follows from her admirers.

So there you have it... My Goldie. I hope you enjoy the photo's. I promise a video of her first drive this Spring, I'll take you all with me! Of course that means you might have to put up with my singing (never a good thing), I will try to refrain from "cat calls" and whistling at good looking men...oh heck, no I won't, who am I trying to kid?! I promise, you'll get the full package, no editing.

Here's more of "Goldie" - click on the photo's for a larger view:

I hope your Wednesday is a good one!

Oh! I have a couple more Awards to post and pass out, later today :)

Take care~

My Head, My Head!

Hi Everyone~

I'm sorry, but today will be a "non-post". I was hit with a migraine last night and it has decided to stay a while. This is nothing new, I just need to let it pass and it will :)

I will respond to all comments just as soon as I lose the urge to gouge my eye's out with a sharp object!

The photo above was taken by Crystal when we went to Bandon, Oregon, Sept. 2010. This is an iconic rock on the Bandon coast, called "Face Rock" ...I love this view!

I hope you all are well and having a great week so far!

A Mental/Visual Escape Today

Hi Everyone~

For reason's I don't really need to go into, I am taking a "mental health day of absence". Life hit me hard this morning and I decided it would be better to escape via photographs and Google rather than slip over the edge into darkness.

One of my favorite places to go for a 3 or 5 day get-away is a little town on the Oregon coast called Bandon. It is my dream to live there one day, but, until I am able to make the move, I grab a friend, load up the car and make the 12 hour drive west!

My last trip to Bandon was in mid September of 2010. My good friend Crystal decided to make the trek with me and showed up at my house around noon on "departure day". As I got myself into my Audi (a very fun car to drive!), Crystal put my wheelchair in the back and proceeded to grab her bags from her car. Neither of us know how to pack light and before long the back seat was filled with various bags and "must have" item's.

I was excited to hit the road, had 6 CD's loaded in the player just in case we ran out of things to talk about (we didn't), my ice cold diet Coke was in it's holder and I smiled as Crystal slid into the passenger seat... I was giddy!

Crystal, just as excited as I was, reaches into her handbag, pulls out a 45 pistol and say's to me "where do you want me to put this?" My mouth gaping, I said "what the hell Crystal, who do you think we are?! Thelma and Louise?!" Crystal looks at me as if I've lost my mind and says "I always take my handgun, you just never know when you might need one!"...I couldn't help but laugh, then I asked if she had a license to carry the gun, she said "no", I said "then it's not going with us!"...5 minutes later we were headed down the highway, unarmed, happily digging into the snacks we had brought.

We had such a fun trip! I think we talked the whole way, ate just as much as we talked, took pictures, discovered that the bigger the line is on a map showing roads indicates a better road, maybe even paved!

It took us 15 hours to make it near the coast. We ended up on a "goat trail" more or less, in a national forest, during a torrential downpour and at one point had a baby elk running down the road in front of my car. The poor thing was scared to death of the storm! The baby elk made it back into the woods and we found our way to a town large enough to provide a hotel.

The next morning we got up, had coffee and drove the next hour in glorious sunshine the rest of the way to highway 101, ending up in Bandon, ready to relax with a wine cooler!

The gun was never needed and we look forward to our next trip as soon as my cast comes off, I will map out the route for the next excursion....big lines on the map the whole way!

If you want to see a live webcam view of the beach and monolith's at Bandon, visit this link: Mongo's Webcam and Website. I visit this website every day to get my "Bandon" fix...it tides me over between visits! Note~ you can only view the ocean during daylight hours, during the night, Mongo has the camera focused on a fish carousel of some sort.

My View Today....

Hi Everyone~

I thought I'd share my view with you today. In fact, this has been my view since last Tuesday. The chocolates are not always in view, but certainly nearby. The remote is never out of reach. At times there might be 3 or 4 cats next to me or sprawled out on the DVD player, absorbing the heat. The TV is not always on, but more often than not, I'm channel surfing.
When I took this photo I was watching a marathon of Jersey Shore and switching to a 2003 marathon of America's Next Top Model ... could I be any more boring?

As you can see in the photo, I will need more chocolates soon. I'm craving a huge, greasy, cheesy, drag-it-thru-the-garden hamburger, fries and a strawberry milkshake or Orange Julius!

I'm in the mood to share some random information today, so check back and see what photo's I dig up :)

"LOL Award"

I was both shocked and thrilled to log into my blog and find the message from  "Semi True Torystellar" at Can U Relate?
informing me that she had dug deep, and included me in the list of her "LOL Award" recipients.

We never know when a seemingly simple gesture can make all the difference in someones day...this was one of those gestures. I needed a little pick-me-up, as I was slipping into a small pity party, something I do not like to indulge myself with.

I'm new to the "Award Handouts" so please bear with me. Also, if you are not included in the list, it's only because I followed the rules that limited recipients to a total of 7. So here goes ----->

The rules for this Award are as follows:

Link to the person who awarded you:
Seven unknown facts about yourself:
Award to seven other people -

1. When I was 18 I applied for a job at the Playboy Bunny Club in Dallas, TX., for a cocktail waitress position. Got the job, but chickened out! (my moral compass kicked in)

2. I sold a dress to Lee Harvey Oswald's widow when I worked at a shop in Town East Mall, TX- 1978

3. Bozz Scaggs asked me to snort cocaine with him. I didn't and told him he was a loser! (I know this sounds scuzzy, I wasn't a drug addict...I can't speak for Bozz though)

4. I put a tiny dent in my big sister's Audi when I was 14 years old. (I told my sister about the dent years later)

5. I didn't write my term paper for English my Senior year in High School...my teacher passed me anyway.

6. I want to get my boobs done. (but I won't)

7. I dance in my chair when I'm alone and a good song is playing.

Thank you to "Semi True Torystellar" at Can U Relate? for lifting my spirits with this Award :) Please visit her blog and I'm sure you will be entertained as I was with my very first read!

Now it is my turn to pass this Award on to other Bloggers that I find interesting, entertaining and worth a read by the world at large. So this LOL Award goes to:
Chatty Crone - Funny, Inspirational, Thoughtful and Graciously Southern
This and That (As I Bounce Thru' Life) - "Bouncin' Barb is a jewel. It is apparent from the very first post you read, that she is a giving, caring, loving and very funny lady. I'm thankful I found her!
Tales From A Loser -Belle is absolutely no "loser", please visit her blog and you'l see she has much to offer!
My Life As Jenny!- I laugh just reading her name! She's hilarious- go see.
The Sparkling Diamond - Jennifer is fresh, exciting, funny and you never know what you'll find in her posts!
Even The Nice Ones - Funny, witty, brutally honest and well worth the read.
WHOSYERGURL - Cheryl is sweet, funny and you just know thru her words, she is a good person.

I would continue to hand out this award, but I'm following the rules. I think all my followers deserve to be recipients!

I hope you all have a great day. I'll be back~

Being A Slacker Is Overrated!

Hi Everyone!

Finally, I'm feeling better and am ready to take on the world again...from bed.

I'm so thankful that I can still earn a living while being flat on my back. No, I'm not utilizing the "oldest profession in the world", I do Social Media for businesses.

I want to extend another "thank you" to everyone who has stopped by and wished me well and a big "woot woot" for those of you who decided to click the follow button while you were here! The cockles of my heart (no clue what a cockle is) are warmed and content.

Having to spend long periods of time in bed is nothing new to me. I have issues with pressure on my "bum" that I have dealt with for thirty three years...it's just part of my life and I've adjusted to living with it, but, I have not had to be in bed with a cast on my leg before so I am on a learning curve here. It will work out fine though.

My oldest son and his daughter took me to the Orthopaedic doctor on Tuesday so I could have my permanent cast put on and I let my granddaughter choose the color for the cast. She chose Neon Lime Green....I am fairly certain, should I find myself crossing the street with oncoming traffic, the cast will alert driver's from quite a distance.
Now, let me warn you about the next photo. My son took this photo before I had a chance to tidy up my living space, so please excuse the mess. If you look closely, you will see that I have all the essentials within arms reach: iPhone, extension cord for charging all "must have" electronics and technology, my wallet, very useful for the online shopping I will inevitably do, remote controllers, air freshener (thank you TJ-my stinky Lab), snacks, a box of See's chocolates, a TV tray so my "gruel" doesn't end up down the front of me, plenty of mind altering drugs and of course a coffee!

I decided to spare you all the horror of  having to see my bed-head hair, well that and the fact that I am extremely vain, so I put on a beanie:
It is uncertain at this time, just how long I will need to stay flat and keep the leg/foot elevated, but I do know it will be for at least the next two weeks. I go back for more xrays on February 15th so hopefully the Doc will have good news and a timeline for me by then.

Once again, through adversity, I am reminded of how much I love the internet! Thank goodness I have this connection to the outside world! Imagine if one day the internet just went away.....

My circle of friends has grown since I started this blog, I appreciate all of you and want you to know that you brighten my day, lift my spirits and feed my soul. Thanks so much for including me in your life!

I will be blogging daily now, so check back once in a while! Also, I am adding a "favorite blogs" list to my sidebar today to show my appreciation and to let the world know that I follow some awesome bloggers!

"Life is full of events that might be out of our control, how we choose to deal with those events is 100% up to YOU"

Have a great day!
